BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate

This course is designed to offer you an engaging programme to support and develop your existing experience, knowledge, and love of dance. The course will broaden and enhance your skills and is not restricted to those who wish to pursue a career in dance. The course is an excellent choice for your study programme in the Sixth Form.

The mandatory units studied are: 

  • Group Performance Workshop
  • Developing Skills and Techniques for Performance 

Three additional units are also studied from the following options:

  • Healthy Dancer
  • Choreography for Live Performance
  • Improvisation
  • Movement in Performance
  • Physical Theatre Techniques
  • Contemporary Dance Technique
  • Street Dance Technique
  • Classical Ballet Technique
  • Tap dance Technique
  • Jazz Dance Technique
Assessment 

Unit assessment is completed as follows:

  • Group Performance Workshop – External assessment (33% of qualification)
  • Developing Skills and Techniques for Performance – Internal assessment
  • Additional three units – Internal assessment

External assessment styles:

  • Set tasks – you will complete the assessment during a defined window and demonstrate understanding through completion of a vocational task
  • Performance – you will prepare for assessment over an extended window and demonstrate skills that generate some non-written evidence.

Internal assessment styles:

Most of the course units are internally assessed and these will be completed in a variety of ways. You could be given opportunities to:

  • Demonstrate practical and technical skills using appropriate processes
  • Complete realistic tasks to meet specific briefs or particular purposes
  • Write up the findings of your own research
  • Use case studies to explore complex or unfamiliar situations
  • Carry out projects for which you have choice over the direction and outcomes.
Where Next 

The course content ensures that you will acquire the key knowledge and skills that employers need. Employability skills such as team working and entrepreneurialism, and completing realistic tasks, have been built into the design of the course, making a wide range of career options open to you.

You could go on to continue your studies in Higher Education and progress to working in theatre, television, film, and video.
